What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Senior Inventory Analyst Position

As the Senior Inventory Analyst, you are responsible for maintaining accurate, current inventory of customers’ product in primarily related to all of Colonial’s business activities including, but not limited to transportation, storage, blending, and terminal operations. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of inventory balances and includes daily weekly and monthly duties. The Senior Inventory Accountant interfaces with Schedulers, Quality Assurance, Measurement, Accounting, Operators, Commercial Affairs, and others to ensure accuracy. This role focuses on either core transportation or blending and terminal operations responsibilities. However, this person must be able to perform the responsibilities for both focus areas to provide needed capacity during key close periods as well as department.

What You Get to Do:

Core Transportation Inventory:

  • Own the reconciliation and tracking of pipeline systems to minimize discrepancies between book and physical inventory.

  • Work closely with Measurement and Operations to ensure accurate physical inventory. Accountable for shipper over/short variances to ensure accurate shipper inventory positions.

  • Review and analyze end-of-month product inventory to ensure volumes are correctly accounted for prior to sending to revenue accounting for billing.

  • Review daily transactions by location to ensure accuracy and help to identify trends and anomalies.

  • Manage the ticketing and inventory data which is used to generate settlement statements and invoices, and other inventory reports which feed into various groups within the organization.

Blending and Terminal Inventory:

  • Oversee the monthly/daily inventory reconciliations of the Company’s terminal and blending operations.

  • Reviews inventory to identify unusual balances or transactions and ensures inventory discrepancies are resolved and communicated in a timely manner.

  • On a monthly basis, reconciles inventory gains/losses for the Company’s terminal and blending operations.

  • Manages the ticketing and inventory data used to perform inventory reconciliations and close procedures.

  • Performs month-end close-related duties specifically around additive/blend component inventory and COGS financial statement line items.

  • Assists with the preparation of COGS entries for product sales that occur during the period. Manages the company’s compliance with RFS standard.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally, 5+ years of experience in any combination of financial/accounting, commercial, scheduling, QA, control center or related area.

  • Experience with operational, inventory and/or financial applications.

  • General understanding of GAAP and FERC Accounting, including accounting for inventory

  • Experience in operations/scheduling in Oil/Gas Industry is preferred.
