Summary: Employee is responsible for all repair activities as assigned by Tooling Manager or Tool Room Shift Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inventory of punches and other expendables.
  • Layout dies, fixtures and parts.
  • Designing and building of fixtures and small dies.
  • Must be able to read part prints.
  • Teaching and/or instructing toolmakers with lower classifications the following: techniques, methods of operating equipment.
  • Train and manage apprentices.
  • Tryout dies and assist in securing PPAP approval.
  • Tig weld trim steels and heat treat tool steels if necessary.
  • Estimate and quote hours and costs.
  • Run all tool-room equipment including mill, lathe, grinder, surface grinder, saw drill press and Mig/Tig welders as necessary.
  • Trouble shoot sheet metal dies in the presses as well as in the tool room.
  • Use layout tools and equipment, ie: height gages, Jo-Blocks, indicators, micrometers and calipers.
  • Clean up assigned work areas including your work bench.
  • Complete all documents such as job cards, p.m. log book, requisitions, etc.
  • Operate cranes for trucks and lift trucks to move dies.
  • Inform Inspection at end of each shift or at the end of the job about any excess parts (scrap/questionable) or raw material at the press or machine so it can be disposed of in the proper manner.
  • Observes and complies with all company, federal and state safety and environmental policies and practices.
  • Develops strong working knowledge of all relevant quality policies, procedures, and work instructions associated with the successful performance on this job.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe personal work area and shared facility space.
  • Stop production at any work center, as necessary, if safety is being jeopardized, or to correct quality problems. Any work stoppage must be reported immediately to the production shift supervisor, and quality problems to inspection or the Quality Manager.
  • Responsible for all other duties assigned.

Basic Requirements and Skills:

Good eyesight and health to permit full time employment and attendance within the company absenteeism guidelines.
