Job Description Summary:

Coordinate and function as a faculty member in the Art and Visual Communication program which provides beginning graphic designers the skills to help organizations standout through the creation of graphics that fit specific commercial needs, such as logos, packaging, or displays. The curriculum is designed to equip students with a foundation in art and the basic skills needed to succeed in the industry. Award options in this program include: Graphic Design AAS , Graphic Design Certificate, Graphic Design Occupational Skills Award, and Digital Photography Occupational Skills Award.

Essential Duties :

Essential Duties for Coordinators:

  1. Work with the Dean and assistant deans in the areas of coordination, admissions, registration, database maintenance, textbook ordering, CRT meetings, and graduation activities, all in response to service area needs for a defined instructional/academic area.

  2. Assist in the promotion of activities, strategies, and processes that prepare students for success while meeting the requirements of all internal and external accreditation entities.

  3. Coordinate the specific academic areas assigned – in terms of planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.

  4. Monitor College web site for changes and updates, and communicate the changes back to the Dean and assistant deans.

  5. Work with the Dean and assistant deans to prepare schedules that meet student needs.

  6. Collaborate with the Dean, assistant deans, CRT , and faculty members to develop or improve new programs and program-improvement initiatives.

  7. Mediate faculty-student conflict and communicate with the Dean and assistant deans.

  8. Ensure that new faculty have the proper documentation, orientation, and mentoring to successfully meet student needs.

  9. Support the Dean and assistant deans in the interview process.

  10. Serve on College Committees as assigned, to include appeals committees.

  11. Oversee online and Quality Matters approval and re-approval process.

  12. Facilitate decision-making between campuses and disciplines.

  13. Collect assessment documents and ensure that these are turned in to the CRTs and Assessment Coordinators on time.

  14. Evaluate part-time faculty members of the assigned department, including part-time faculty teaching in high school settings.

  15. Implement Student Perceptions of Instruction (SPOIs) and oversee data entry and analysis.

  16. Inspect rooms and equipment for repairs and maintenance.

  17. Coordinate substitutes for absent faculty and insure paperwork submitted in a timely manner.

  18. Assign mentors to newly hired faculty.

  19. Work with Division Operations Coordinator to insure proper supplies are available for faculty and staff.

  20. Perform educational review for SACSCOC compliance.

  21. Accept other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties for Faculty:

  1. Provide instruction for academic digital arts courses including digital media, graphic design, photography or any classes for which the faculty member is assigned and credentialed with the Digital Arts programs in the division of Arts, Kinesiology, and Agriculture.

2.Teach at a variety of times and locations as per program needs.

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.

  2. Maintain access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.

  3. Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.

  4. Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.

  5. Advise students in academic matters.

  6. Evaluate students’ performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.

  7. Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.

  8. Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, Curriculum Resource Team and Advisory Committees regarding curriculum.

  9. Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.

  10. Submit, in a timely manner, college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.

  11. Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.

  12. Possess a passion for teaching community college students.

  13. Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally.

  14. Attend college orientation and required institutional meetings.

  15. Responsible for other related duties as assigned.

  16. Serve on division and/or college committees.

  17. Assist in digital arts and applied art programs growth by attending recruiting events on behalf of the program.

  18. Develop, facilitate and maintain industry/internship connections for applied arts and digital arts programs for student success.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Visualization, Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual Communication, Game Art, 2D/3D digital media or closely related field.

Required at interview: art & professional work portfolio in Graphic Design or similar applied arts, sample curricular lesson plan and a brief simulated course lecture of 15 minutes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Visualization, Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual Communication, Game Art, 2D/3D digital media or closely related field.

  2. Prior supervisory/managerial experience in Art and Visual Communication or related field.

  3. Three or more years of work experience in digital art creation either in commercial art or entertainment industries.

  4. College level teaching experience desirable.

  5. Credentialed to also teach ARTS courses.

  6. Experience with teaching online courses.

  7. Strong visual art studio background at the undergraduate level.

  8. Knowledge of on-line instructional design.

9.Sample of past student work (as instructor) desirable.

  1. Sample of professional work desirable – portfolio or demo reel.

Salary Range: per full time faculty pay schedule, Coordinators receive additional pay equal to $3,000 per long semester (Fall and Spring) with release of 3 ILUs per long semester.
