Legrand NA Engineering Technician II in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania

Position Description

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician II to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA.

The Engineering Technician 2 will contribute to the design, documentation, testing, commercialization, and release of firmware, software, and hardware for Starline’s embedded electronic devices.

Main Job Duties:

  • Work alongside the firmware and software development teams to identify gaps in existing test plans

  • Assist with writing firmware and software system/performance/regression test plans and test scenarios

  • Execute regression testing and vulnerability and penetration testing (VAPT) on new firmware/software releases

  • Assist with creating technical documentation, such as user manuals and installation instructions

  • Provide support to the customer service team concerning firmware or software-related queries

  • Contribute to pre-compliance testing and verification testing of the embedded hardware

  • Assist with building prototypes and soldering components to printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs)

  • Contribute to embedded electronic design reviews

  • Maintain laboratory equipment as well as safety processes and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field

  • 5-10 years in firmware/software/hardware testing or other relevant technical experience.

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: -

  • Basic understanding of QA processes and methodologies (test plans, test designs, test cases, bug tracking systems, software life cycle)

  • Experience testing firmware or software-related products

  • Basic understanding of embedded microprocessor designs and communication protocols and how they interface with PC tools

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience using DMMs, power supplies, soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, and other laboratory equipment is preferred

  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, Postman, and LabVIEW is preferred

  • Has a passion for improving both the customer experience and quality of product

  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt with change; strong desire for continuous learning; embraces a growth mindset

  • Curious, task-oriented, and a self-starter with a proven track record of "getting things done."

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

    Personal Qualities/Behaviors:

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.

  • Ability to lift up and carry to 25 pounds

  • Participate in Team-based initiatives within Starline.
