Job Overview Under general supervision from higher level supervisors, performs master painter/plasterer work; assists in the management, supervision, coordination, scheduling and recordkeeping of UC Paint shop activities and when connected with painting/plastering work, assists with managing activities of other skilled and unskilled UC work crews and outside contractors; provides labor and material cost estimates for maintenance and billable work; prepares related records and reports; assists in training new employees. Essential Functions Performs master painting and plastering work; prepares work surfaces and areas by sanding, masking furniture and equipment, scraping walls, etc., repair cracks and holes; performs minor glazing; mixes plaster and mixes and matches paints; applies paint using rollers, brushes and spray methods; may inspect buildings and equipment; mixes, applies and finishes plaster using standard or specialized tools; installs and repairs vinyl wall coverings; and miscellaneous shop duties. Investigates work requests; meets with customers to determine their needs. May coordinate working with other UC painter/plasterers and other UC work crews (i.e. Area Maintenance, Electricians, Grounds, HVAC, Movers, Painters, Plumbers, etc.) and outside contractors. Estimates total costs of labor and material for maintenance and billable work; interprets blueprints; may prepare specifications for minor repairs which may be done by UC painter/plasterers and/or other UC work crews and/or outside contractors; inspects the work to ensure compliance with specifications. Maintains an inventory of stock materials and equipment; orders materials, parts and equipment as needed. Maintains acceptable maintenance levels of all equipment and/or buildings' internal and external systems and other related areas. Maintains housekeeping conditions in the paint shops, job sites and assigned UC vehicles as prescribed by area. Prepares and provides related records, reports and documentation; updates and completes work orders, Time Off From Work forms, stock room requests and purchase orders. Performs related duties based on departmental need. Minimum Requirements Must have an approved certificate from an accredited related apprenticeship program and two years directly related work experience; -OR- high school/GED and five years directly related work experience. Must have a valid Ohio driver's license with acceptable driving record.
