Carmeuse Americas Maintenance Planner in CLEAR BROOK, Virginia

Job Summary:

Maintenance Planner is responsible for scheduling preventative maintenance, planning of equipment repairs, monitoring, maintaining and procuring the necessary parts for scheduled maintenance, and supporting the overall maintenance strategy of the site. The Maintenance Planner has the organizational freedom and authority, as defined by the Site Manager, to schedule manpower and secure materials for proper maintenance and to participate in the implementation of safety programs to ensure the safety of assigned employees. Additionally, the Planner shall work with the appropriate Maintenance Supervisors to ensure that employees have received the appropriate training and tools required to satisfactorily perform their responsibilities and to ensure that such training has been appropriately recorded.

The Maintenance Planner is specifically given the responsibility and authority to initiate action to monitor and plan inspections and repairs of plant equipment so site safety, productivity, and spending goals are achieved. The Planner participates in the site’s budget development process and monitors maintenance spending versus the budget.

The Maintenance Planner has the authority to identify and the responsibility to record any problems related to the product, process or system, and to initiate, recommend or provide solutions through the Maintenance Team (including contractors when necessary). When solutions have been approved, the Maintenance Planner has the responsibility to participate in the implementation of those solutions through excellent communication, coordination, and scheduling. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for participating in the implementation and maintenance of the site’s Preventive Maintenance program which includes creating new and reviewing existing PMs, while also adding new equipment information and bills-of-materials to the site’s equipment registry. Reports to the Site Operations Manager and accountable to the respective Managers.

  • Utilizes the SAP Maintenance Electronic System .

  • Maintains the Preventive Maintenance system. Ensures that all equipment has the appropriate preventive maintenance set up on the proper intervals. Coordinates with manufactures to ensure that proper tasks are performed on preventive maintenance. Helps initiate and implement procedures developed with Reliability Engineer and other Site leaders.

  • Ensures that equipment masters have significant equipment data entered in the notes section.

  • Investigates each significant job and determines materials and manpower required to perform necessary work.

  • Arranges for required materials to be available when work is to be done. Checks to see if materials are in inventory, working closely with the Site Warehouser. If not, requisitions necessary materials following up to learn when items will be received. Also validates all items charged to work order when work is completed.

  • The planner is responsible for accurate and timely receipts of maintenance services in the site’s ERP system (SAP), connecting routinely with vendors to ensure invoices are correct and on time.

  • Develop means to track status of backlog - which jobs are planned and ready to perform, which jobs are waiting for materials, which jobs can only be done on major shutdowns etc.

  • Hosts weekly Maintenance Planner meetings with the Maintenance leaders, Operations leaders, and others as necessary to set daily, weekly, and monthly schedules of work to be done.

  • Ensures that all work orders and maintenance log items are closed when work is finished. Notes sections are to be updated with information on work performed and other significant data, ensuring that comprehensive equipment maintenance histories are maintained.

  • Identifies repetitive failures and initiates action to determine root cause.

  • Monitors component life. Sets up program to replace/rebuild components shortly before predicted failure date. Evaluates wear on items removed and adjusts change intervals to compensate for wear experience.

  • Manages oil analysis program ensuring that samples are taken at appropriate intervals. Schedules preventive/corrective maintenance actives as appropriate responding to analysis results.

  • Identifies obsolete inventory spares and initiates actions for their removal from inventory.

  • Ensures that tire tracking program is effectively utilized.

  • Provides Site/Maintenance Managers and respective Ops Managers with weekly and monthly summaries of work performed and backlog status.

  • Monitors outside contractor work while on job site. Ensure schedules are met within budget guidelines and safety rules followed.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with and work well with other employees.

  • The ability to perform work according to a routine, while maintaining standards of performance.

  • The ability to be well-organized and efficiently use computer-based tools for planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking (such as Excel, SAP, etc).

  • Together with the Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs) shall include but may not be limited to: % Schedule Completion, % Preventative Maintenance, % Urgent, # weeks of backlog, and Plant Reliability (by department).

  • Proper discharge of duties by the employee in this position will be measured, in part, by the degree of efficiency of performance as measured through visual observation and periodic verification.

  • Willing to work hours necessary to ensure the job is done and the planning is complete so the Maintenance program can be successful. Available on-call for maintenance support.

  • Ability to learn different systems, tasks and functions, and the ability to back-up the Maintenance Supervisor as needed.

  • Is consistent, persistent and has resilience in completing assignments.

Basic Requirements: (Education, Level of Experience, Language):

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED), college degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience of five (5) years.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and to other employees of the organization.

  • 5 years of Industrial maintenance in a continuous process environment preferred. (Mining, Refractory, Steel, Petroleum/Petro Chemical industries are an ideal fit.)

  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred

  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and MS Project

  • SAP experience preferred
