The University of Miami School of Law, Center for Ethics and Public Service, has a great opportunity for a Program Coordinator to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

Founded in 1996, the Center for Ethics and Public Service (CEPS) is a law school-housed ethics education, experiential skills training, and community engagement program devoted to the values of ethical judgement, professional responsibility, and public service in law and society. The Center’s Mission is to educate law students to serve their communities as citizen lawyers.

For 28 years, the Center has served as an incubator and an accelerator for numerous public service initiatives. They include on-campus and off-campus clinics (Children and Youth Law Clinic, Community Economic Development and Design Clinic, Community Lawyering Clinic, Environmental Justice Clinic, Health Law Clinic, and Social Enterprise Clinic), programs (Dartmouth College Ethics Institute Internship Program, Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program, Street Law Program, and Joint College of Arts and Sciences Program on Law, Public Policy, and Ethics), summer colloquy (UM Environmental Justice, Policy, & Science), and oral histories and documentary films (Oral History and Documentary Film Project).

The Center operates three programs: the Community Equity Lab, the Black Church Program, and the Legal Profession Program. Program faculty, staff, and students collaborate with schools across the University of Miami as well as the Florida bar and bench; anti-poverty, civil rights, environmental, and public health organizations; and faith-based groups, nonprofit corporations, and civic and neighborhood associations.

The Program Coordinator provides general oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Center. They assist the Sr. Program Manager in the development, organization, production, and evaluation of projects in order to achieve the Center’s mission, goals, and objectives. They are familiar with university, law school, and Center policies and procedures, ensuring program compliance.

The Program Coordinator will work to strengthen, enhance, and grow the Community Equity Lab’s Health Equity Project and the Housing and Community Equity Project, the Legal Profession Program, and the Black Church Program. The incumbent will develop strategies to engage and identify areas to improve existing relationships with communities of color within Miami-Dade County.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Performs duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision):

General Office Management

  • Serves as a primary information resource regarding CEPS operational functions

  • Maintains and organizes the CEPS workroom

  • Maintains and organizes CEPS digital and physical files (archival and present)

  • Provides routine and general clerical support

  • Replies to Center’s email inbox flow

  • Log, prepare, and submit financial expense reports (often pertaining to the purchase of the Center’s supplies, student lunches, or the Director’s faculty expenses)

  • Provide assistance to all guest speakers

  • Develop content for distribution across all social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, CEPS Newsletter)

  • Manages student fellows and interns and maintains databases for accurate recordkeeping

  • Works with the Director and Sr. Program Manager to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements or changes, as well as assist with assessment efforts such as assembling data, writing and/or editing reports

Grants and Fundraising

  • Work closely with the Office of Corporate and Foundation relations (a sub-office of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations) to identify viable grant opportunities

  • Write, Submit, and manage grant proposals and their statuses

  • Maintains grant records as required by the funding agency and university policies

  • Research and pursue outstanding fundraising opportunities (CEPS events, sponsorships, email marketing, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, etc.)

Primary Programmatic Initiatives

Legal Profession Program (LPP):

  • Hire, train, and supervise LPP fellows and interns

  • Serve as support, alongside the Director and Sr. Program Manager, to embolden students and their creative ideas

  • Oversee coordination and calendaring of events

  • Monitor student communication with prospective guest speakers

1L Reading Group:

  • Coordinate and schedule bi-weekly meetings

  • Research and assign reading materials

  • Facilitate discussion debriefs

  • Identify and coordinate with guest speakers

  • Establish standing Purchase order for lunches

Freedom School Program:

  • Curate lesson plans in alignment with partnership feedback and program theme

  • Assemble program booklet

  • Assess program effectiveness and identify areas for growth and improvement

Events

  • Oversees coordination and calendaring of events

  • Provides email blasts to students, faculty, staff, community members, etc.

Faculty Assistance

  • Place Fall and Spring semester course book orders

  • Assist with class preparation

  • Generate course seating charts

  • Manage Blackboard and TWEN for student course materials

  • Oversee coordinating and scheduling of office hours

  • Maintain student coursework and files (digital and physical)

  • Supervise course Dean's Fellows

  • Coordinate student talks with guest speakers

  • Work closely with the Office of the Registrar to ensure adherence to protocol during midterm and final examination periods

General Expectations and Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing tasks

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must be well organized and detail oriented

  • Self-starter with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated capacity for discretion when handling confidential information

  • Knowledge of student recruitment, advising, and retention strategy

  • Must have reliable transportation to visit community partners and potential partners

  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends is required

Education/Experience (Essential Requirements):

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred.

  • One to three years of experience in higher education programmatic administration, academic research, and/or student advising preferred

  • Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered
