Position Summary

Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) invites applications for the Director of Student Engagement Strategy. This role will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs, the Director assumes a pivotal role in providing leadership and administration over student engagement activities. The Director's primary responsibility is to uphold the college's mission while offering leadership, oversight, and assessment for programs designed to engage and celebrate students, ultimately enriching their journey at MSUCOM. This role involves crafting a comprehensive roadmap that spans each academic year, ensuring a positive, rewarding, and cohesive journey for our students. The Director will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to continue to build a well-defined student experience that aligns with our college's mission and values. With a keen eye on the student experience across enrollment years, the Director orchestrates a continuous improvement model aimed at optimizing the success and overall experience of MSUCOM DO, dual-degree, and PA students.

 

Description of Job Duties:  Develop and maintain a yearly student experience map that considers significant curricular milestones, co-curricular activities, and recognition of student achievements. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student organizations to facilitate co-curricular activities, workshops, and events that promote student engagement, leadership, and community involvement. Provide guidance and training to class officers and student leaders, ensuring their effectiveness in fostering a positive student experience. Foster strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Uphold institutional professionalism standards and serve as a professionalism coach as needed. Review and update student-focused policies, handbooks, technology systems, and event calendars annually. Oversee the team responsible for the planning and execution of student events, including orientations, ceremonies, and student organization/extracurricular activities. Collaborate with other campus departments to ensure a seamless student onboarding process. Offer support and expertise to enhance student engagement in relevant programs. Oversee affiliation agreements and partnerships related to student-initiated extracurricular activities. Monitor and report on regional, national, and international trends in medical education related to student engagement. Engage regularly with students and student representatives to provide a platform for feedback and issue resolution. Develop and implement a communication strategy regarding engagement and events for the student body. Serve on the Senior Associate Dean's leadership team for strategic enrollment management planning, program evaluation, and cross-departmental collaboration. Administer departmental operations, including budgeting, defining staff positions, developing policies, and addressing accreditation-related student engagement and operational requirements. Generate an annual report providing budgetary, program, and quality improvement recommendations to the Senior Associate Dean.  Represent the department on appropriate committees and external organizations. Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean and other COM community members to facilitate faculty and staff skill development in student engagement. Assist with the preparation of accreditation documents and reports related to student engagement and student-related services, coordinating these efforts
