Transportation Research Center, Inc. Fabrication Specialist in East Liberty, Ohio

Purpose A fabrication specialist manufactures and repairs component parts from industrial materials. Our Fabrication Specialist provides specialized knowledge to support customer testing including fabricating, designing, and repairing devices for TRC Inc.'s Garage Services business unit. The Fabrication Specialist will be required to machine parts, read blueprints, assemble fixtures, and weld. Essential Functions* Assist in developing and making recommendations for the application of special fixtures for specific tests Set up, monitor, operate, and maintain test equipment and tooling Recommend and assist in selecting test support equipment Communicate directly with customers, managers, and project management to clarify needs and expectations Conduct a variety of test or test set up procedures which require using subjective judgment in measurement, fabrication, test equipment, and the recording of data Verify data to prepare reports Assist in the planning of vehicle and test preparation along with test performance related activities Organize and review documentation and record and report activities accurately Train new personnel in fabrication practices TRC Inc. is an equal employment opportunity employer and is willing to make a change or adjustment to a job or work environment that allows a qualified individual with a disability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of a particular job. *Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions) Establish and maintain work schedules that meet current schedule demands Check critical points in setup and testing Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes Perform maintenance and housekeeping duties Contribute to testing using a wide variety of critical test equipment Support TRC Inc.'s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Experience in fabrication, welding, and machining Practical knowledge and experience of mechanical and/or electronics applications Knowledge of material classifications and their applications Valid state DMV issued, or valid foreign country issued driver's license Highly skilled in the use of test equipment/tools, machinery, and welding equipment or electronics Demonstrate strong math skills Attention to detail with a drive for quality work output Excellent communication skills Strong problem solver Basic PC skills Demonstrated leadership skills Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints Accurately use measuring equipment such as tape measure, scales, calipers, micrometers, etc. Can safely use metal working tools such as saws, drill presses, metal brake, etc. Experience in MIG, Stick, and/or TIG welding of various materials Experience with machine tools (mill, lathe) a plus Able to be self-sufficient once trained Working conditions May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degrees and above 95 degrees May be exposed to inclement weather May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as gas, oil, and paint Physical requirements Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds Capable of positioning oneself into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions It is the policy of TRC Inc. to provide equal opportunity in all areas of employment practices, without regard to race, color, caste, religion, religious creed (including religious dress and grooming practices), national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical or mental disability, medical condition
