U.S. Army Sustainment Command Material Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) in Fort Sill, Oklahoma

Summary About the Position: Performs combined cargo movement, forklift and motor vehicle operations in support of mobilization and demobilization at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Responsibilities Operates forklifts and container handling equipment to move, load or unload, transfer and transport, and stack or unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies. Performs a full variety of cargo movement tasks which often requires the assistance of others in the movement and handling of equipment and other specialized cargo. Assembles and packs equipment for shipment. Operates stake trucks, cargo vans, and tractor semi-trailers to pick up and deliver materials and equipment to various locations and work sites. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Material Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Materials Handler duties. Receive and unload shipments; and perform warehouse inventories. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Transportation movements and container yard work requires prolonged standing on hard surfaces, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, positions and carries supplies and equipment weighing from 20 to 35 pounds and, occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering and tilting the loads being moved. Motor vehicle and material handling operation requires good hand and eye coordination in the manipulation of gears, levers, brakes, steering wheel, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in cold, damp, drafty and hot areas. Subject to injury from falling objects, collisions, shifting loads and overturning. Equipment is operated wherever it is needed. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
