Actalent Structural Drafter in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Description:

The Structural Drafter will report to the Structural Department Manager and is responsible for the fulfillment of all assigned duties below. They will work directly with a Project Manager and internal design staff along with externally with client representatives, other firms, consultants and Licenser Representatives.

Project types: Our client works on a wide variety of projects that range from new-builds to adaptive reuse and renovation. They will perform about any type of work including: higher education, K-12, municipal, industrial, multi-family and more. The only type of work that they are specific about is healthcare as they will only do additions or renovations to healthcare projects. This position is based on increased demand across the board but also due to them winning a large project in Wisconsin for several multi-unit housing buildings that are mostly new-builds with a few renovations as well. Part of their project load also includes adaptive reuse with historical buildings which is a niche area that they take pride in performing.

Revit Department Functions:

  • Produce the following under the guidance of the Structural Engineer, Architect, or Project Manager:

    • Collect field data, including existing building, systems and site conditions. Craft manually or electronically created existing details for use in development of details and as built drawings.

    • Convert field drawings, details and measurements into BIM models for preparation of Design Development Documents

    • Construction documents consisting of drawings and specifications setting forth in detail the requirements for the construction of the project

    • BIM Models of engineering drawings focused on structural but can include civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and site planning to include elevations

  • Learn and know the CAD and Revit standards established with our client and responsible for their consistent use in all drawings

  • Review and coordinate models for conflict with other disciplines

Expectations of Role:

  • Develop Revit models using the client's Revit standards, from the preliminary design document under the guidance and approval of the Architect, Engineer or Project Manager assigned to the project

  • Meet all established project timelines keeping the Architect, Engineer or Project Manager informed of progress

  • Notify the Architect, Engineer or Project Manager of changes to the drawings for whatever reason

  • Check measurements and continuity of all drawings, informing the Architect, Engineer or Project Manager when errors are discovered

  • Be self-motivated and have the initiative to advance construction documents with little or no supervision

Must-Haves:

  • Associate Degree in drafting, design or other related degrees

  • Proficiency in Revit

  • 2+ years of experience in BIM Modeling (experience can come from preferably Structural, but also open to Architecture or MEP or Construction)

** Ability to perform production of design development and construction documents
