MD Anderson Cancer Center Associate Director, Philanthropy (Executive Correspondence Writer) in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Associate Director is to support our mission by composing leadership correspondence to donors. This will include but is not limited to gift acknowledgements, thank you letters, condolences, invitations and meeting follow-ups. The Associate Director works independently, collaborates with others and will be asked to translate science into donor-friendly narratives.

Donor Communications is an experienced, creative team of fundraising professionals who produce compelling donor-facing collateral. We tell the MD Anderson story to potential donors in ways that compel them to give, and to equip frontline fundraisers with the high-quality documents they need to meet the institution's goals. KEY FUNCTIONS

Programmatic Project Execution (40%)

Consistently deliver skillful execution of team-specific work with an eye toward continuous improvement, while being aware of the impact of the team's work on and in partnership with others.

· Work independently to plan, organize, manage, produce and maintain a long list of donor-facing correspondences. Understand the philanthropic voice of individual leaders and effectively convey it. Work closely with others to continuously elevate and improve correspondence while staying informed about the latest advances happening at the institution. Communicate clearly and collaboratively with stakeholders about project goals and status. Create and maintain all documents/information related to areas of specialization, such as fundraising priorities or special projects. Share expertise and experience with new writers. Complete employee development and/or leadership training curriculum as applicable.

Collaboration and Teaming (40%)

Actively partner with donors, peers, faculty and divisional leadership on strategy development, strategy execution and other projects. Develop networks, engage in cross-functional activities to deliver stakeholder engagement. Work co-operatively with all stakeholders, contribute to the success of collaborative work teams and support completion of initiative or project to achieve stated goals.

· Aid and advise gift officers and other Philanthropy staff by helping guide the established letter writing process and setting expectations early so all staff are supported and informed. Edit and review letters created by gift officers and keep abreast of major prospects and activities. Serve as writers' liaison to one or more Philanthropy units, teams or squads to guide development of donor-specific strategies.

Perception and Attentiveness (20%)

Accurately assess interests, organize and present information in thoughtful and engaging ways, constantly shifting between multiple activities and sources of information, maintain situational awareness, cultural awareness, institutional awareness and adeptly navigate cross-functional teams in support of team and division plans.

· Gather, manage and continually update relevant information about fundraising priorities and other institutional programs and services. Share and store acquired information and help maintain/enhance information-management systems.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Marketing, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Four or more years experience in fundraising/non-profit, government agency, marketing, advertising, or public relations, law, healthcare or related industry.

Preferred: Three or more years of experience in writing/editing for development (preferred), communications or related field. Familiarity with medical and scientific terminology gained from education or from experience at MD Anderson or comparable institution.
