Compensation: $113,700 - $129,000

LOCATION/HOURS

This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our New York City office. It is expected that some duties will be performed on-site at least 2-days a week, and some remotely.

All candidates must be within commutable distance of SEO’s offices at 55 Exchange Place, New York, NY 10005, upon hire.

SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Accounting is a key leadership position tasked with overseeing SEO’s shared services accounting function and acting as team lead to five (5) direct and skip-level team members. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, this position will be a strategic thought partner with an eye on continuous evaluation and achievement of short- and long-term financial objectives. This position has primary responsibility for all of General Accounting, including managing Audits, treasury, A/P, A/R, and Accounting systems, and managing, controlling, and safeguarding most financial activities related to the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of all the organizations financial matters as it relates to accounting, grants management, auditing, treasury, tax, GL, A/P, A/R, cost accounting, internal control, process improvements and more.

  • Manage month-end and year-end close reporting cycle.

  • Lead the annual audit & tax compliance including timely completion of the 990 tax

  • Streamline processes and create efficiencies within the accounting department.

  • Build the systems and processes necessary for success including cash flow, monthly close & financials, contract & grants management, and others as appropriate.

  • Ensure development, implementation, and maintenance of internal control systems to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure appropriate management of all revenue received, liaising with the Development team as required.

  • Strengthen financial reporting and analytics to facilitate strategic business decisions

  • Maintain and develop accounting controls and procedures. Ensure accurate and timely financial reports.

  • Lead, guide, coach and mentor direct reports in financial processes and reporting. Ensure the success of the team and their performance with an eye toward internal controls and continuous improvements.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • CPA required.

  • BS in Accounting or Finance, master’s degree in a related field preferred.

  • Direct ‘hands on’ experience in all aspects of accounting including reconciliations, auditing etc.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years senior level experience in managing an accounting function.

  • 3+ years of progressive people management as both a direct and skip level manager. Must be skilled at leading teams to higher performance with a keen ability to lead across difference, apply consultative skills to determine professional development needs for experienced professionals, set strategic priorities, and manage empathetically. Extensive knowledge of financial management in non-profit organizations including requirements for Form 990, NYS Form CT-13 and NYS Form CHAR 550.

  • Systems understanding is essential; advanced proficiencies in MS Office (especially Excel) and strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting software such as Intacct, Sage/MIP, Financial Edge, required.

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting.
