Amazon Senior Research Scientist, AWS CQC - QEC in Pasadena, California

Description

This role is for the quantum error correction team (QEC). The team delivers software tools, carries out simulations, and shares expertise in quantum error correction with other teams to support our experimental efforts. The candidate will work with other members of our team to extend our qec software tools, to run simulations aimed at informing experiments, and to explore and evaluate new codes, fault-tolerant gadgets, and qubit architectures in the context of error correction. We are looking for an expert in error correction theory, who will be able to initiate new research directions for the team and disseminate their expertise within the team and across other teams.

About the team

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience

  • 3+ years of investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products experience

  • Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.

  • Experience communicating qualitative research methods and findings to non-qualitative researchers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience converting research studies into tangible real-world changes

  • Experience with discrete and continuous optimization methodologies and algorithms

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
