The Position

This role analyzes user requirements and designs new IT application solutions and/or enhancements to existing application solutions in meeting new business needs and in solving business problems. This role possesses and applies a broad range of expertise of principles, methods, practices, standards, procedures and compliance requirements of the business function in designing and developing IT solutions. In the support role of existing systems, this role provides knowledge, testing, documentation, Service Level management reporting. This role will liaison with operations and other support groups regarding system use, and interfaces with business users in understanding and providing resolutions to the system related issues and discrepancies.

Relationships

This position reports to a manager in Business Applications. The individual interacts with all levels of the business and collaborates with various individuals inside and outside of the IT organization.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes & Fulfills Business Needs:

  • Analyzes user requirements in detail and contributes to the development of detailed User Requirements and Functional Specification, defining the system capabilities along with accompanying data models and process models

  • Clearly communicates with stakeholders to set expectations on the feasibility and timeframe for the delivery of solutions

  • Participates in the development of technical designs and specifications from functional specifications for systems of simple to moderate complexity; Develops URS, FRS, TDS, DFD, Test cases, Traceability Matrix and other design documents; Reconciles design models with business requirements; Designs application prototypes when necessary

  • Utilizes knowledge of the assigned business function to identify business needs and develop value-added solutions.

  • Builds Relationships & Influences Key Stakeholders:

  • Assists in identifying the skills and resource required to implement the new system or to modify an existing system and in arriving at cost estimates and the timeline for the development and implementation efforts

  • Delivers messages and presentation in a clear, confident manner

  • Provides counsel to business leaders and stakeholders regarding IT policies, solutions and initiatives

  • Develops & Maintains Systems, Applications & Infrastructure:

  • Analyzes user requirements and develops functional specifications and configurations for systems

  • Designs, develops and executes test scripts and test scenarios to ensure the developed system(s) meet the technical and functional specifications; assesses and develops validation requirements; conducts functional testing, performance testing and integration testing; plans and coordinates user acceptance testing; documents the results of all tests

  • Recognizes opportunities to increase system and process performance and functionality

  • Leverages Technology Principles, Knowledge & Practices:

  • Applies IT knowledge to diagnose issues with applications and infrastructure

  • Consults with and advises other application development staff on the system design aspects, business rules and processes and the use of various technologies, tools, standards, methods and best practices

  • Utilizes knowledge of relevant IT areas to recommend existing solutions to client needs

  • Manages IT Vendors:

  • Acts as a liaison between the business or function and vendor to provide updates and ensure alignment

  • Ensures that vendors are adhering to project or service level agreement timelines and cost estimates

  • Gathers and compiles information on vendor performance and identifies areas that can be improved in the future

  • Monitors vendor activities to ensure compliance with contract expectations

  • Understands & Applies Risk Management Practices:

  • Ensures system design adheres to compliance requirements, SOX requirements and other technology standards both local and corporate

  • Integrates current risk management procedures into processes, projects and systems

  • Leverages knowledge of risk management standards for current processes, projects and systems

    Physical Requirements

    0-10% overnight travel required. This position will report to our Plainsboro, NJ location with the expectation of a hybrid in-office working environment.

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field required. Relevant experience may be substituted when appropriate

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in Computer Science, IT, programming/systems analysis or other related experience required

  • Ability to lead a project in the development and implementation of processes and programs. Ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of somewhat complex problems

  • Ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated problem solver

  • Demonstrates written and oral communication skill at all levels

  • Experience with test case writing, and execution

  • Moderate knowledge of CFR Title 21 Part 11 requirements, FDA regulated environments, industry practices on computer validation, and Sarbox regulatory requirements of computerized systems

  • Moderate knowledge of operating systems, relational database architectures, query languages and interface, standard programming environments, data integration tools, application integration solutions, and web based information solutions

  • Strong attention to detail
