JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks is searching for an adjunct core faculty position in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program to teach “OT 207 – Assistive Technologies and Methods of Adaptation” in the Fall 2024 semester and “OT 216 – Occupational Therapy for Physical Health and Rehabilitation” in the Spring 2025 semesters.

OT 207 addresses assistive technologies and methods of adaptation including selection criteria, methodologies, proper use, and precautions. OT 216 examines the structure and function of the human body with practical applications to occupational therapy practice in physical health and rehabilitation. Students examine the effects of conditions associated with physical structures of the body and how these affect occupational performance. The OTA part-time core faculty member is involved in and responsible for disseminating current, relevant, and applicable information and learning resources to the OTA students in designated/assigned courses.

The OTA part-time core faculty facilitates the development of knowledge, the application of concepts, the use of critical thinking and reflective practice with the OTA students through classroom and/or laboratory activities. In addition, the OTA part-time core faculty member participates in student advisement by evaluating the performance of the students academically and in relation to the development of professional skills. This individual annually contributes to curriculum development /review and provides a faculty professional growth and development plan including goals and action steps related to teaching and curriculum development/enhancement. The faculty member supports the administration of the OTA program in accordance with ACOTE criteria and assists in ensuring that the program meets all accreditation requirements.

The expectation is that the Part Time Core Faculty teaches in both the fall and spring semesters to maintain year-long contact with the program and students. While a Master’s degree is beneficial, a Bachelor’s degree will be considered. Experience working as an occupational therapy assistant is required. Three or more years of clinical experience, especially in physical disabilities, along with a current license or eligibility to obtain a license to practice occupational therapy in PA is required.
