Adams Construction Company Controller in Roanoke, Virginia

Location – Roanoke, VA.

The Controller is a position that will allow the selected candidate the opportunity to be exposed to various competencies within the organization. The Controller supports the overall objectives of the global finance and accounting group. This key leadership position will model behaviors in alignment with our vision, mission, values and goals, and report directly to the CFO.

  • Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems.

  • Manage annual budgeting process and provide analytics to support variances

  • Maintain compliant intercompany relationships

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.

  • Coordination of external financial statement, tax and insurance audits

  • Coordinate monthly/quarterly close process in accordance with GAAP

  • Maintain enterprise-wide corporate policies related to Fixed Assets, Intercompany Accounting & Prepaid Expense Accounting

  • Accurately file multi-state sales and use tax returns on a monthly basis

  • Manage the finance and accounting transition during divestitures & acquisitions

  • Manages security within ERP

  • Assist in the management, design, and implementation of ERP systems and functionality

  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field

  • CPA preferred; CPA candidate required.

  • Minimum 7 years work experience in accounting, finance, or auditing

  • Strong, advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, data organization)

  • Critical thinking skills/solutions, stream-lining – should be able to suggest and implement process improvements

  • Strong team player with demonstrated ability to prioritize and juggle multiple deadlines simultaneously

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Must be flexible to ensure that deadlines are met

  • Must have initiative to identify and self-start projects
