Description If you're an experienced accountant with a keen eye for accuracy, there's an exciting opportunity through Robert Half for you to check out at a firm in the Education - University industry. In the role of Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. Many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close will be your reponsibility. In addition, you will look over schedules for the reporting processes, participate in compliance, and keep in touch with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits. This role also involves the production of Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This multi-faceted, challenging short-term contract / temporary to hire opportunity is at a Rochester, New York based company where effort is rewarded and the environment is thriving.
Major responsibilities
Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision
Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management
Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Take part in various department-wide initiatives
Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Participate in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules Requirements - Excellent analytical, quantitative and social skills
Recent and relevant accounting experience
Skilled with ERP systems
Expertise in Accounting Functions
Debit Credit experience
Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
Competent with spreadsheets and databases
Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment
Ability to meet deadlines
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
