Robert Half Controller in Santa Barbara, California

Description We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Controller in Santa Barbara, California. The role involves managing accounting policies, producing financial reports, overseeing cash management functions, and coordinating with other departments on accounting matters. The successful candidate will be in charge of an array of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of our financial department.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including a system of internal controls to minimize risk.

• Prepare timely and accurate financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and nonprofit accounting standards.

• Maintain audit-ready financial records consistently.

• Oversee cash management functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank and investment account reconciliations.

• Collaborate with other departments and staff on accounting matters, including grant proposals and reporting.

• Coordinate annual audit and tax return preparation, liaising closely with CPA.

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

• Maintain strict confidentiality and detail oriented conduct at all times.

• Communicate material business impacts to key stakeholders.

• Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and implement new processes. Requirements • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

• Proficient in Financial Reporting

• Experience with Grant Accounting

• Thorough understanding of US GAAP

• Ability to implement and maintain Internal Controls

• Proven skills in Account Reconciliation

• Expertise in Cash Management

• Familiarity with Paychex software

• Proficient with QuickBooks software

• Demonstrable leadership and decision-making skills

• Strong communication and presentation abilities

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

• Proven ability to work in a team environment

• High level of integrity and trustworthiness

• Proven analytical skills with attention to detail

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

• Experience in a similar role would be advantageous

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
