Nexstar Media Group Sports Anchor in Savannah, Georgia

WSAV News 3 Savannah seeks a Sports Multimedia Journalist/weekend Sports anchor to join our news team covering the Coastal Empire of Georgia and the South Carolina Low Country. The Sports MMJ/Anchor will produce, report, anchor, shoot, write, voice, edit, feed, and present content for all media platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to consumers. WSAV is owned by Nexstar Media Group and located in downtown Savannah near the historic district, with the world famous Savannah Bananas across the street and the beaches of Tybee Island just 10 minutes away. The WSAV sports department focuses on local sports, both mainstream and the unique story. We cover high school football with dedicated news programming, and a live football game on Friday nights. Along with high school coverage, WSAV is present at SEC and Sunbelt athletic events. The WSAV sports department also covers The Masters and RBC Heritage Golf tournaments each spring. We are looking for someone with a team winning attitude that will bring energy and unique ideas to the WSAV sports department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Pitch unique sports stories that will appeal to all audiences and drive ratings

  • Be able to set up, shoot, write, edit, and produce your own stories across all platforms

  • Develop and execute enterprise content on a consistent basis

  • Produce content for digital platforms

  • Cover breaking sports news with a sense of urgency and be available outside of sports in newscasts

  • Be a dynamic sports storyteller live in the field

  • Have experience producing and anchoring a sportscast

  • Fill-in sports anchor as needed

  • Establish and maintain relationships/sources in the community

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required & Preferred Capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

  • Fluency in English

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required

  • Experience with on-air presence

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Social media expertise, proficiency

  • Knowledge of current newsgathering technology, including video cameras, editing equipment and newsroom computer systems

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

  • Flexibility to work any shift

Technical Skills:

  • Confident and capable videographer who is able to gather compelling visuals, strong natural sound, and solid interviews with field video gear to produce visual storytelling

Strong non-linear video editing skills required

    • familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software preferred
Ability to operate field live transmission unit essential

    • TVU experience preferred
  • Familiarity with ENPS rundown and story management system preferred

  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment

  • Valid driver’s license required for hire. A clean driving record is required and must be maintained to be able to safely & confidently operate company motor vehicles

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Sports MMJ/Anchor must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct conversations, do virtual interviews, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work outdoors with various weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
