Shippensburg University Director of Partnerships, Professional Experiences & Outreach in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania

The College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) is responsible for coordinating and supporting school-based and clinical experiences, professional partnerships and community outreach for undergraduate and graduate students in the Criminal Justice Program, the Exercise Science Program, the Social Work Program, the Teacher Education Program, the Educational Leadership Program, and the Counseling and College Student Personnel Program. The Director of Partnerships, Professional Experiences, and Outreach is a twelve month administrative position reporting to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. The Director is responsible for providing leadership for coordination and facilitation of all school/program field experiences and internships within the College of Education and Human Services as well as for all secondary education majors in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and the J.L. Grove College of Business. The Director will be responsible for cultivating and nurturing a college-wide lens on the involvement and impact of undergraduate and graduate students in school-based and clinical experiences, as well as partnerships and outreach with stakeholders and organizations in the community. The Director must be a dynamic, innovative leader with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys developing and strengthening relationships with faculty members from academic departments and with off campus professionals in the education and human service areas.

Three domains represent specific responsibilities. They include: College-Wide Synergy (all programs in the college)

  • Developing, updating, and maintaining formal agreements with diverse school-based and human services-based field sites.
  • Advocating for new field-based site development and instituting affiliation agreements across college programs.
  • Co-chairing the Field Services Advisory Committee and serving on the Teacher Education Council.
  • Provide oversight of the design and maintenance of the Website for the Office of Partnerships, Professional Experiences, and Outreach for all areas -- (technology expertise required).
  • Developing and implementing a system to centralize clearances for undergraduate and graduate students in all programs.
  • Ensuring that candidates have experiences in diverse settings and with diverse groups and creating and maintaining an appropriate database/record-keeping system.
  • Collaborating with faculty, the Dean, and Associate Dean to navigate policies related to conflict resolution related to field experiences and clinical practice.
  • Arranging timely and appropriate professional development in consultation with university faculty members for field supervisors, school-based clinical faculty and personnel at sites for practica.
  • Serving on various appropriate university and community at-large committees at the direction of the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.
  • Serving as liaison with Luhrs Laboratory School, area school districts and agencies, the SU School Study Council, all departments, and PCDE for developing summer ACT 48 programming.
  • Maintaining a sense of shared governance in decision making. Building Partnerships and Outreach (district administrators, staff, cooperating teachers, agencies, organizations, external funding)
  • Developing reports that capture the student success and learning outcomes emergent from clinical and field-based placement data from the Criminal Justice Program, the Exercise Science Program, the Social Work Program, the Teacher Education Program, the Educational Leadership Program, and the Counseling and College Student Personnel Program.
  • Actively expanding and deepening community-based partnerships.
  • Spearheading initiatives focused on student success that include service learning, community-based engagement, and co-curricular initiatives.
  • Supporting new academic program cultivation and strategic planning.
  • Coordinating efforts to generate diverse revenue for College operations and initiatives.
  • Providing leadership in external funding pursuit. Supporting Students' Professional Development and Competence (interns, students in human service-based field placements, preservice teachers, student teachers and certification candidates, faculty)
  • Supporting college faculty in collecting, monitoring, and distributing student progress data in field-based programs and assignments.
  • Identifying and assigning, in coordination with university faculty members, field experiences in the College of Education and Human Services, College of Business, and College of Arts and Sciences, ensuring that clinical practices are extensive and intensive for candidates to demonstrate proficiencies in the professional roles for which they are preparing.
  • Serving as liaison for all secondary education programming (i.e., professional standing applications).
  • Coordinating student-based certifications.
  • The Director must be able to operate independently and collaboratively to develop and enhance strong partnerships and field-based sites. Although the educational and experiential backgrounds of the successful candidates may vary, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, as well as a minimum of two years of successful administrative experience. The Director must also demonstrate strong interpersonal and presentation skills, the ability to develop trust-based relationships, and personal resiliency, and exceptional analytical, technical, and communication skills. Moreover, he/she should possess a commitment to shared governance in the creation of partnerships and the ability to design and implement effective systems of communication among university faculty members, field-based clinical faculty, and students.
