Advocates for the use of CDC’s Tobacco Treatment Clinical Guidelines. Facilitates the Courage to Quit (CTQ) Tobacco Cessation Program developed by the Respiratory Health Association. Promotes the use of the Indiana Tobacco Quitline (ITQL). Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines relative to tobacco cessation. Serves as a consultant to physicians, public health nurses, hospital personnel, media, schools, and the general public in matters related to tobacco cessation.

  1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

  2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.

  3. Develops and monitors program policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations related to smoking cessation in accordance with CDC Clinical Guidelines.

  4. Conduct group and one-on-one tobacco cessation counseling and facilitating the CTQ Tobacco Cessation Program.

  5. Recruit participants through community events approved by supervisor and referrals from local health care providers and community organizations.

  6. Partner with local community organizations to host in-person CTQ classes. The Tobacco Cessation Coordinator will plan virtual sessions as well, as needed.

  7. Provide one month, six month and one year follow up with all participants to gauge cessation success and provide additional support as needed post cohort.

  8. Responsible for all necessary reports to the Respiratory Health Association for the CTQ Tobacco Cessation Program.

  9. Provides orientation/training to professional and paraprofessional personnel in smoking cessation education, screening, and use of CDC guidelines and ITQL referral process.

  10. Prepares and/or recommends cessation-related educational materials for the public, clinics, schools, housing offices, organizations, employers, and other organizations.

  11. Prepares and submits Letters to the Editor related to tobacco cessation in local newspaper.

  12. Provides social media posts on tobacco cessation on SJHS social media accounts.

  13. Provides technical support and updates to SJHS.

  14. Coordinates activities relevant to smoking cessation programs within SJHS.

  15. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for funders, SJHS partners, and SJHS and corporate administration.

  16. Maintains confidentiality of information (a breech is reason for termination).

  17. Transports confidential protected health information between worksites, community events, home visits, homes, and/or professional meetings.

  18. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
