COUNTY OF DOOR 911 Dispatcher in STURGEON BAY, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential Job Functions Answers and routes telephone calls and messages of an emergency and non-emergency nature to the proper public service agency. This can include handling multiple calls at one time. Relays, tracks, and logs further information as needed throughout the duration of an emergency situation. This can include information coming from multiple sources at one time. Quickly and accurately navigate multiple software programs as situations dictate. Ascertains proper routing of incident information through geographic knowledge of the County. Operates radio transmitter in accordance with Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations. Utilizes the Transaction Information for the Management of Enforcement (TIME) System for entry of warrants, restraining orders, missing persons, stolen items, criminal histories, administrative messages, hit confirmations etc. and is used during all traffic stops. Participates and attends job related meetings and training. Keeps records and data in accordance with department rules. Routes, transmits and interprets teletype messages. Monitors weather radar and follows severe weather procedures when situation dictates such. Question callers to determine their locations and the nature of their problems to determine type of response needed. Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures. Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages. Scan status charts and computer screens, and contact emergency response field units to determine emergency units available for dispatch. Receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information, and after-hours calls for departments within a city. Enter, update, and retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles. Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification. Observe alarm registers and scan maps to determine whether a specific emergency is in the dispatch service area. Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials. Monitor various radio frequencies, such as those used by public works departments, school security, and civil defense, to stay apprised of developing situations. Read and effectively interpret small-scale maps and information from a computer screen to determine locations and provide directions. Maintain files of information relating to emergency calls, such as personnel rosters and emergency call-out and pager files. Learn material and pass required tests for certification. Answer routine inquiries, and refer calls not requiring dispatches to appropriate departments and agencies. Provide emergency medical instructions to callers. Operate and maintain mobile dispatch vehicles and equipment. Monitor alarm systems to detect emergencies, such as fires and illegal entry into establishments. Test and adjust communication and alarm systems, and report malfunctions to maintenance units. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Required Training and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to type a minimum of 31 words per minute determined by a standard keyboard test. Able to obtain certification in CPR within 6 months of hire. Must obtain Basic and Advanced TIME System certifications within 1 year of hire and maintain. Successful completion of telecommunications field training and evaluation program within six (6) months of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Ability to work the required hours of the position, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Strong ability to communicate effectively and precisely both orally and in writing. Ability to hear at a level commensurate with working conditions. Vision correctable to 20/20 on a Snellen eye chart. Ability to record computer data rapidly and accurately. Ability to maintain security and confidentiality. Continuous working knowledge of the County\'s geography. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to operate a keyboard and telephone equipment. Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
