- Must pass three positions - Vertical, Horizontal, and Overhead - flux core and stick
- Must have abilityto obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
[Welder Test Instructions, Procedures, and Requirements]{segoe="" ui",sans-serif"=""}
- Required to complete an open-root weld test on a 3/8" plate with a 1/8" gap for both SMAW (1/8" 7018 rods) and FCAW (flux-core) processes
- Examples of an acceptable root pass, cap, and back gouge are provided for reference
- Instructions to complete tests are outlined below
- MUST have the following equipment to complete test: Chipping Hammer, Gloves, 4" Grinder, Hood, Safety Glasses, Steel-toed Boots, Welding Stinger (Whip - stinger/whip should have a 5/8" quick connect end), Wire Brush, and Wire Pliers;Non-flammable arms and upper body coverage attire (leathers, denim jacket, long sleeve shirt) is required

- Coupons are laser cut ( NO grinding required)
- Wire wheel rust or mill scale from the face of coupon
- Test administrator will set up coupons in a jig for gap placement
- A 1/8 " gap is required
- Proceed by tacking the backing tabs onto end of plates
[Step 2:]{segoe="" ui",sans-serif"=""}
- On the backside of coupons, apply weldment (as shown below) to backing tabs to ensure that coupons do not separate whilewelding
- Place four tack welds on coupons ONLY in the specified areas
[Step 3:]{segoe="" ui",sans-serif"=""}
Once coupons are tacked together, mount coupons to the welding test booth jig
DO NOT
tack coupons on the jig using the nut and bolt attachment located on the jig
