Job Description

The position functions as the statewide specialist on reforestation needs and issues pertaining to commercial and noncommercial forest management. The employee will coordinate with field managers to implement the reforestation program on state forest lands and on U.S. Forest Service lands under Good Neighbor Authority (GNA). The position will coordinate the development and implementation of the annual plan of work (POW) for both planting and natural reforestation activities on state forest and U.S. Forest Service lands, including coordination of DNR and contractor reforestation equipment and personnel. The position will function as the coordinator for reforestation related to the establishment of habitat for the Kirtland’s warbler (KW). The employee will have shared responsibilities at the Brighton Tree Improvement Center and Wyman State Forest Nursery, including maintenance of seed orchards and seed inventory. The position will collaborate with the State Silviculturist on strategic changes in reforestation methods and efforts to enhance seed production through the Michigan Cooperative Tree Improvement Program (MichCoTIP).

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in forestry.

Experience

Four year of professional experience equivalent to a Forester, including two years equivalent to a Forester P11 or one year equivalent to a Forester 12.

Alternate Education and Experience

Alternate Education

A bachelor's degree in a field of natural resources with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in forestry-related courses.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
