Description Robert Half is looking for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. This leadership role oversees an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the West Columbia, South Carolina region.
Your responsibilities
Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations
Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties
Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports Requirements - Be detailed, flexible, and organized
3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Demonstrated ability in strong analytical, quantitative and social skills
Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the company
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
Strong familiarity with journal entries
Month end closings experience
Comprehensive knowledge of month end closings
Foundational knowledge in financial statement preparation
